No Place Like Home
Looking out the window at the River as I type, I’m happy to see the passing of Winter and the coming of Spring/Summer 2016, always with enthusiasm for the change of seasons.
With the last Boat shows of the Winter Season (Toronto, Miami & Ottawa) mere memories, our Crew now meet to plan for the orchestration that is ” Launch Season”. That 6 week period that every Marine Operator knows as controlled chaos, balanced with the optimism that a new summer full of friends, laughter, sunshine and boating lay ahead.
This past Winter, Heather and I were fortunate enough to enjoy boating in various regions throughout the US, always a welcome treat as temps dropped back home. In November, we joined close friends and assisted navigating a 4 day run in their 370 Boston Whaler from Savannah GA to Fort Lauderdale. Most recently in February, we accepted an invite to join friends and navigated the East and West Coast of Florida including the Keys. The Chesapeake and Nevada were other destinations that the Boat Business had me visiting, every destination different yet somewhat similar seen from a Helm’s perspective.
The memories created by enduring friendships and laughter will remain with us forever, all facilitated through the experience of Boating. What becomes obviously apparent though is while beautiful, none of the destinations came close to the St Lawrence River, the Playground we call home.
Fresh water, 1000’s of islands, castles, theatres and ports of call every 10 miles and scenery beyond description are but a few of the attributes we sometimes take for granted. No wonder the 1000 Islands is recognized as one of the “Best Fresh Water Destinations in the World”! Time goes by quickly,“Let’s Go Back” to the River and make Summer ’16 one to remember with Friends and Family on the water.

EHM – Always Evolving
With 127 years experience serving the 1000 Islands boating community, come and see why EHM was voted among top Marinas in all of Ontario last season.
As well as offering 165 dockage slips, winter storage for over 300 boats and being open 7 days/week in-season, EHM has 7 factory trained technicians for Sea Doo, MerCruiser, Mercury, Volvo, Yamaha outboard and sport boats, storage facilities to handle everything from Sea Doos to 60′ Motor Yachts, canvas and fibreglass repair facilities. Come see for yourself how easy we are to deal with and save money too.
New for 2016 our 25,000 square foot heated indoor storage facility will be available. Enjoy the benefits of not having the boat wrapped for the winter, enhanced security, added longevity for electronics, winter service priority and as Cobalt Boats reminded us this past month in a Service Bulletin:
“Best practice is to store the boat at or above 2C to avoid potential moisture or condensation from freezing and expanding in crevices or attachment areas where it could cause stress and cracks.”
A further best practice would be to move the boat as little as possible below the freezing point of water and to warm the boat up to room temperature prior to working on the boat. Moving the boat slowly and as little as possible will reduce the changes for excess stresses.
Special welcome to our US boating friends
It has been great the past few months getting reacquainted with so many of our US boating friends. Although over our 127 year history EHM has always been fortunate to have a large American customer base, we have certainly seen this increasing lately. We are always happy to offer exceptional American dollar deals for new and pre-owned boats as well as for service and storage. Our Canadian built brands Rossiter and Stanley offer exceptional value in USD.
